Hi folks,
For families who’ve hired Direct Care Workers before — did you go through an agency or hire someone independently? I’d love to know the pros and cons of each approach in terms of cost, reliability, and flexibility.

When we were looking for help for my grandmother, we chose to go through an agency because of the built-in reliability and oversight. Agencies typically handle background checks, scheduling, and provide replacements if someone can’t make a shift, which gave us peace of mind. The cost can be a bit higher, but the trade-off was worth it for us. This page has details about their CNA role if you want to see the kind of qualifications agencies like CarePoint usually expect. That helped me understand the training and skills a worker would bring.

The flexibility was great too, since we could work out a schedule directly without going through a middle layer. The main downside is that if our caregiver had to cancel or got sick, there wasn’t a quick backup option like an agency would offer. I’d say if reliability and coverage are top priorities, an agency is better, but if you value cost savings and a personal connection, independent hiring can work.
